London Plane “Smalltown Boy“ (A Refugee Song)

OUT NOW
Bronski Beat’s 1984 classic synth pop hit “Smalltown Boy” is re-imagined by NYC’s London Plane and producer Carlos Dengler (former bassist/keyboardist of Interpol)

Subtitled “A Refugee Song”, the original message of “Smalltown Boy” has been expanded to shine a light on the current plight of displaced peoples across the world who are caught in ongoing conflicts. London Plane’s approach to this long-adored song uncovers a darker, more sinister tone to the original.

“Smalltown Boy: A Refugee Song” emerges from the recording sessions for London Plane’s much-anticipated album “Villains Heroes Ghosts” due for release Summer, 2026. Based in NYC, the six-piece band is comprised of an international mix of members with a reputation for energetic live shows. “Villains Heroes Ghosts” marks former Interpol bassist Carlos Dengler’s emergence as a skilled and ascending producer.

Produced by Carlos Dengler
Originally written by Steve Bronski/Jimmy Somerville/Larry Steinbachek
Reimagined and performed by London Plane
Additional keyboards and guitar by Carlos Dengler
Recorded and mixed John Davis
Mastered by Alex DeTurk
